LONICELY makeup class experience!

Can you believe I had the opportunity to meet the fabulously talented Makeup Artist Lauren Nicely AKA @lonicely! I was beyond ecstatic and quite nervous. However, after traveling two hours in the rain to get to Atlanta, I finally arrived at Prissy In The City. I was among a few to arrive early at the quaint and beautiful makeup boutique, in order to get a front seat (short girl problems!).  After waiting for a few minutes, we finally entered and was greeted by Prissy (Boutique Owner) and the beautiful striped silver and purple accent wall. However, the gift bags dominated my focus, but I’ll come back to that!

After waiting for a few more minutes, Lauren finally arrived and we begin the class. She first began introducing herself and then giving us packets of what she would discuss during the class. Some things that was included in the packet was The Perfect Brow, Eye Shadow Placement, Pre- Eye Shadow and Foundation Application, Highlighting and Contouring techniques and a number of other things.  After the introduction, we mingled and ate some of the most delicious finger food I’ve had in a while. No, this wasn’t your average meatball and wings; we had collard green dip, pineapple lemonade punch, and pasta salad just to name a few things. OMG the food was bussin’ and catered by Brandino’s Catering!

So moving right along, after everyone had the chance to grab a bite to eat, Lauren began the live demo on her beautiful model @sanganfool. From start to finish, she discussed in detail every step to achieving a precise and smooth makeup application. Lauren was so transparent and very humble towards any and every question that was asked. She gave us tips on how to get Pro discounts, kits essentials (foundations, setting powders, primers, etc.), and picture lighting (how to take better pictures of your work to get companies to endorse you). Overall the class was just amazing and well worth the money for any person looking to grow in their artistry!

O yea, I didn’t forget about the gift bag. In there, she included a full size jar of Ben Nye Luxury Powder, Bdellium Tools Brush, OCC Lip Tar, E.L.F. makeup wipes, blush brush, and setting spray, Juvia Place foundation brush, Monda Studio eyelashes, Femi Cosmetics loose pigment, Pink Scarlet loose glitter, latex wedges, and business cards for Prissy in the City.

If Lauren is going to be in your city, don’t wait to late to register for her class or a one-on-one lesson. Until next time Luxe Ladies!

Getting to Joy

Young jenny from the block! lol (Mission: Get back to this size) 12th grade I think!
Hi Luxe Ladies! So a few months ago while sitting under the dryer and visiting some of my favorite plus size blogs, I began to reminisce about my high school days. To me, it wasn’t anything spectacular about high school (well maybe prom, graduation, and being an senior superlative). Probably because I was known as the smart, quiet, and cute but fat black girl with long hair! However, one thing that I really enjoyed was my personal style. I would wear heels at least 3 times a week and rock makeup like no tomorrow (only eyes makeup and lip gloss.... no foundation for me!). I even filled in my eyebrows and got ridiculed for them being too long!!! HAHA.

Anyway, my clothes weren’t name brand, but I enjoyed them still the same because it was how I expressed myself. I was very much confident and happy with whom I was.  Then I entered college. It seemed to be the prospect of achieving greatness and partaking in every event possible, only to witness the dreaded fact that my plans were not reality. So I asked myself, “Is it really happiness I’m missing, or joy?” Only then did I realize that happiness is a temporary solution to the lack of joy in my life. Happiness equated to the gain of material things; all of which would eventually be lost. However, in the midst of searching for happiness, I found joy in writing and in being me. I decided to go back to those joyful days of high school and relive them now with more edge, voice, courage and most important confidence.

The purpose of this VENT was to express to all that despite life circumstances, you have to find joy in the self and serving God. If we are constantly searching for others to make us happy, then life will pass by and all we will have is a lot of bitterness towards people and self-hate. At the end of the day, look for peace within yourself. To be continued…
